FOOTPRINT NAME LINEUP FLOOR MATS

Ideal for use within a classroom or preschool environment (but also adaptable as an individual resource for slightly younger children). Each child can colour in a set of footprints individually and then add their name (or have it added for them). After, the footprints can be placed along a classroom floor for lining up and every day they line up they are looking at their name. The sheets can also be used for younger children as part of developing the ability to recognise their own body parts and their written name.

Children know that they have a particular number that they start on (or are told to go to a particular number) and as the person in front moves forward to the next floor mat, they may then also move forwards to the next one. In addition to aiding social distancing, children may practise number recognition, counting and counting down (as opposed to up) as they wait for their turn to exit the room.

  • SEATING MATS - Children could be assigned a particular number/Animal that they know to sit on. This could be a floor mat or a seating place at a table.

You may like to assign a Dinosaur to each child within your group/bubble. They then know that whenever they see that Dinosaur it is something of theirs e.g. place to sit, stand, peg to hang their possessions, box for their things, etc.

This resource is intended as a pack of versatile floor mats. Here are 2 possible uses… (Please obviously carry out your own risk assessments and consider health and safety implications for the children within your setting when deciding how to use our resources):

  • LINING UP - They could be adhered to the floor and placed 2 meters apart from each other starting at the door. Children know that they have a particular one that they start on (or are told to go to a particular one) and as the person in front moves forward to the next floor mat, they may then also move forwards to the next one.

  • SEATING MATS - Children could be assigned a particular Dinosaur that they know to sit on. This could be a floor mat or a seating place at a table.

In these very difficult times, we have created this poster in an attempt (heartbreaking as it is) to sum up the main aspects of social distancing and hygiene for children. We have tried to reinforce the positive idea that sharing a smile with their friends is an excellent way to help everyone feel happy and highlight the need to stand further away from each other than we usually would, take care to wash our hands really well and cough or sneeze into our sleeves.

With regards to all of our ‘Social Distancing’ resources, we are by no means suggesting that this is what should be done with your particular group of children, but we have created a set of resources of which some you may find useful to aid elements of social distancing in your particular set up.
