National School Sports Week

National School Sports Week is an annual UK-wide campaign organised by the Youth Sport Trust, dedicated to promoting the importance of physical education (PE), sport, and play in schools. In 2025, the event will take place from 16th to 22nd June, marking the 30th anniversary of the Youth Sport Trust.

🏃‍♀️ Purpose and Goals

The primary aim of National School Sports Week is to encourage children and young people to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day, aligning with the UK Chief Medical Officers' recommendations. For children with disabilities or special educational needs (SEND), the target is 20 minutes of activity per day.

The 2025 theme, "Always Active," emphasises the importance of daily movement and aims to create positive, inclusive experiences for all children.

🎉 Activities and Participation

During the week, schools, families, and communities are encouraged to:

  • Organise sports days and physical activities.

  • Promote inclusive sports opportunities.

  • Encourage active play at home.

  • Share experiences on social media using #NSSW2025 and #AlwaysActive.

Participants can access free resources, including lesson plans and activity ideas, provided by the Youth Sport Trust and partners like Sports Direct and Under Armour.

🏆 Special Highlights

  • UK’s Biggest Ever Sports Day: On the penultimate day of the week, schools across the country will unite to host the largest collective sports day event.

  • Prizes and Incentives: Schools that register may have the chance to win equipment packs and other rewards.

📚 Educational Impact

National School Sports Week not only promotes physical health but also supports mental wellbeing, teamwork, leadership skills, and resilience among students. It's an opportunity for schools to highlight the value of PE and sport in education.
