World Health Day

World Health Day takes place on the 7th April each year. It is the anniversary of the 1948 foundation of the World Health Organization (WHO). This year the theme is ‘Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures’. More information can be found here…www.who.int/campaigns/world-health-day.

Even from a young age, children begin to think about their own health and that of others around them. We can help encourage a healthy lifestyle and promote good hygiene through some fun activities and learning experiences.

Sugar Awareness Week

This awareness week was started to get adults to think about their sugar consumption. However, it offers an opportunity for young children to become more aware of what they eat too. By talking about different foods and the effects they have, children can build the foundations of good nutritional knowledge. For more information visit www.actiononsugar.org

National Fitness Day

National Fitness Day hopes to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity in helping us lead healthier lives. Most children leap at the chance of being physical, but for those that are hesitant we can utilise music, books, poems and artwork as a stimulus to get them moving!

Background

National Fitness Day is an annual event celebrated in the UK to encourage people to prioritise physical activity and incorporate fitness into their daily lives. It typically takes place in September, with the specific date varying each year. Organised by UK Active, the day brings attention to the health benefits of staying active and aims to motivate individuals of all fitness levels to engage in exercise.

Key Aspects of National Fitness Day:

  1. Purpose:

    • The goal of National Fitness Day is to promote the importance of physical activity for mental and physical well-being. It encourages people to break down barriers to fitness by showcasing that exercise can be fun and accessible for everyone, regardless of age, ability, or fitness level.

  2. Activities:

    • Gyms, leisure centres, schools, and communities across the UK often host free fitness events, classes, and challenges, including yoga, Zumba, running, and cycling. Many organisations participate by offering taster sessions, discounts, and fitness-related competitions.
