About ‘Eid al-Fitr’
Eid al-Fitr (عيد الفطر) is an Islamic festival that marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting. It is one of the two major Islamic holidays (the other being Eid al-Adha). Eid al-Fitr is a joyful occasion of gratitude, community, and celebration, observed by Muslims worldwide.
Key Facts About Eid al-Fitr
Meaning: "Festival of Breaking the Fast."
Date: Celebrated on the 1st day of Shawwal, the month after Ramadan (date varies each year based on the Islamic lunar calendar and moon sighting).
Purpose: To celebrate the completion of Ramadan, express gratitude to Allah, and share joy with family and the community.
How is Eid al-Fitr Celebrated?
🕌 Special Eid Prayer (Salat al-Eid) – A congregational prayer held in mosques or open spaces.
🎁 Zakat al-Fitr (Charity) – A mandatory donation given before Eid prayers to help the less fortunate celebrate.
🥘 Feasting & Gatherings – Families prepare and share delicious meals and sweets.
👗 Wearing New Clothes – A sign of renewal and joy.
👨👩👧👦 Visiting Friends & Family – Strengthening bonds and spreading happiness.
🧒 Giving Gifts & Eidi (Money for Children) – A tradition to bring smiles to younger family members.
